Things I wish I knew when I first went natural

1. Sectioning your hair makes everything easier.
  •  His/Her braid outs might dry overnight but yours need to be a little smaller or  sit under a dryer for a bit.
2. Everyone who goes natural doesnt experience the same milestones.
  •       Just because your favorite natural is beyond Arm Pit Length at 2 years doesnt mean this will happen to you
3. Natural isn't a movement for all
  • Its awesome you want to use as natural or organic products as can be  but dont knock lady over there using crisco, grease, cones and parabens. Its a personal choice
4. Protective Styling isnt the end all.
  • Find other ways to style your hair if the ones you see arent working out for yourself
5. Patience
  • Routines , Styling,  Product selections, take time. Stick with something for a period of time before you decide it isnt working. It can be the way youre using it and not what youre using.

10 weeks

Thats about whats left in this year so I've decided to go the protective style route.

After this comes out I think I'm going to do Kinky Twists, we shall see.  Anyone else going into protective style mode?

Tropical Traditions Coconut Oil

I LOVE Tropical Traditions products,  I guess that might seem a little wild being as I haven't tried ALL of their products. I guess, what I should say is I love the concept of Tropical Traditions and the quality of the products I have tried. I was sent their Virgin Coconut oil with the Gold Label to review and I'm super excited.  Can you tell?

I use coconut oil a lot in my hair routine and on occasion my body as well. I use coconut oil to pre-poo my hair prior to any type of washing, whether its a cowash or a shampoo. My hair strands do not like to be manipulated much and with the use of the coconut oil, it has cut shedding and breaking to a minimum.

I look forward to using this and comparing with my generic coconut oil and Vatika oil. Stay Tuned. Anyone else ever try any Tropical Traditions items?

L.O.C. Method

I'm sure you have heard of this method going around the natural community.  Its been out for awhile though but it may be new to some of you all so I thought I would share. The basis is you use a liquid to moisturize, a oil to seal the moisture in from the liquid and then a cream to seal the moisture in for the oil.  For some of you that might be a lot of product but what I have found is when they say a little they really mean a little is all you need.

I have only used this method on dry hair and not freshly washed *

I don't have any problems keeping moisture in my hair but this method is great for a lazy winter styler like myself.  I have tried it out on my wash n gos to stretch the days before washing and it works great.  I recently tried it out with an unusual combination of products.

I used Qhemet Biologics Moringa Tree Conditioning Ghee as my liquid , Qhemet Biologics Aethiopika Hydrate & Twist Butter as my oil, and Reve Essentials Hair & Body Moisturizing Creme as my cream. I say unusual because the Moringa Tree is a multipurpose item and the Twist butter emulsifies down into an oil, it doesn't start that way.

I had prior to using the items a shrunk TWA, not only did the Moringa Tree conditioning ghee moisturize my hair , it detangled it beautifully.

I don't really have any hold, as seen in the picture above, but my hair is soft and fluffy. There is a little sheen to my hands when I touch my hair but it isn't overly greasy at all.
