Evolution of my WnG

When I started off in 2008, I had no idea what to do to my hair.  I found Nappturality and was happy that I could get tips, conversation , and laughter with other natural women. I didn't know that my hair was curly , coily, kinky, whatever turn you choose. I just said " what the hay" and went for it. I followed a lot of women down the road of trying to "Wash and GO'. It worked for me because all I had to do was add a styler, and shake. " Cool Beans"

So fast forward a couple of years and my "WnG's" still were the same length. I was disappointed. At one point I thought my hair wasn't growing so I started to protective style as much as possible. LOL, that didnt go so well because, well, I hate protective styling. Its just not me.  I can wear kinky twists, micro braids and even weaves for three weeks at a time, but protective styling with my own hair never works for me. I love touching my hair. Its a wonder to me every day because I never know it could be so beautiful.

Well anyway, no one told a sister about banding/stretching a wash and go. My hair doesn't show it length unless its been stretched for days on end. That's just the nature of it.  I could have BSL and my hair will still shrink to above my eyelids in a "WnG". I cant compare my hair to anyone's else because it is its own entity.

I finally figured out that if I want a little length , I will have to ponytail my hair at night, and then take them out in the morning and shake. It still doesn't give me my true length but it gives me enough to where I'm happy.

Heritage by Airest

Honestly I could really use three products on my hair and have it look as good as any high priced item.

In my hair routine all I need is clay, henna , a moisturizer and a sealer. I was on instagram and someone liked a picture. I went to the picture and noticed it was a FAB picture of some hair. I went to the profile of the person and lo and behold she has a hair care line BUT what drew me is the fact that its two of my favorite items

Flax Seed Gel and Clay. The concept of this little company is cool because honestly Ive had great success in using Clays and FlaxSeed Gel myself. Its just sometimes I really dont feel like making it myself and go to ordering

I'm not knocking anyones product flow because I will always be intrigued by products for my hair , its just my thing

So I reached out to the company and shes provided me with all three items. If Shea butter is not for you , you might want to omit the moisturizer and substitute your own.

Cleansing Clay - seems a little thick. You might have to wet the hair and take your time smoothing it on the scalp and hair.

Moisturizer- chockful of shea butter

Flaxseed Gel- very loose, you might have to transfer to a jar with a pump.

A little too thick for you?

I love Taliah Waajids protective bodifier mist. It keeps my protective styles well moisturized alone. All I need is it and a shampoo whenever I am wearing a weave, micro's, or kinky twists. The only downside for me is, that it is kind of thick when you get to the bottom. I found the perfect solution. Adding a spritz to it that happens to be stellar itself but not as moisturizing.

Any of the Oyin juices!

Changes to staples

I am a happy camper when I find something I love, I am even happier when I find a leave in conditioner that I can use on my dense hair solo. I had found that in Beija Flors Natural Creme Brûlée. It was love at first touch. The consistency, the smell, the way it worked in my hair alone. It seemed as if the product angel came down and sung in my ears.

So I decide to purchase another bottle and guess what came. A jar! I knew right off the bat this staple was gone. Anything that goes from a botte to a jar to me means the consistency has changed. Well, the Creme was now like a thick butter. I know it was a little hard getting the last drops out my brûlée out of the bottle but dang, a sister is heartbroken.

I was able to use it in the past as a solo styler for my WnG. Now, it doesnt sink in or absorb as quick as before. Same great smell but performance wise, it doesn't blow me away anymore.

Bottle consistency
It's been scratched off the list!

Tiny bit of bottle on the left/jar consistency
