Karens Body Beautiful: Random Thought

Ive been a fan for many years of Karen's and even though I thought the original silhouette of the female body on the bottles back in the day were great, I have to hand it to her and say the look of the newer bottles does draw the eye. I have had many people walk by and stop to inquire about what was sitting in the bottles, where as I have an older clear bottle sitting in the same place and no one has ever asked about it lol.

I wasn't happy with the size changing/scents discontinued/consistency issues but I cant help but to cheer her on from the sidelines as she continues to do her thing! I wish her the best!

Curly Kinks : Coil Jam

I was so anxious to try this line out that the anticipating was killing me lol. Holding the jar of Coil Jam it seemed to be comparable to Kinky Curly Curling Custard but once I actually opened the jar and started to smooth it into my hair , it seems to be very light weight.  I have to say the leave in conditioner wowed me instantly.  It seemed not only slippery but moisturizing at the same time.

After applying both products to my whole head, I wasn't impressed with how my hair appeared.  It seemed to be so lightweight that my hair waved up instead of its usually curl. I felt like I was having or  have a lot of frizz .  A friend pointed out that maybe it was weighing my hair down hence it waving but for some reason to me it just seemed to be light going on when I was applying it to my hair.

,I wanted to clarify so I used NjoiCreations Bentonite Clarifying Hair Mask. I left that on for around 20 minutes to ensure my hair was clean from any prior products. After rinsing my hair felt really clean  yet still soft and supple. I love bentonite clay because it really works at cleaning the hair.
NjoiCreations Bentonite Clay Mask

After rinsing

I parted my hair into my usual four sections and proceeded to add the Curly Kinks Satin Roots leave in to each section followed by the Coil Jam. The Coil Jam spreads really easy over the hair , its slippery but but not overly so.  I didn't have a lot of drying time that night so my results weren't the best, in my mind. It seemed though that hair had a firm hold but it wasn't crispy or brittle at all.

I am going to have to try it again this weekend and get a better drying time down so the product can dry in my hair correctly. I kept my Wash and Go for 5 days before washing and using it for twists ( I will review using it for twists at a later date). I didn't have to apply any other products for 3 days, I just tied it down at night and in the morning fluff and go. I went to the gym on day 4 and didn't have time to refresh or rewash but it held up nicely.

WnG day 4 ( after gym)
1st Day of Twists
All in all so far I can say these products have great potential and with a little tweaking, trial and error Im sure I can get them to work perfectly for me!

Qhemet Biologics Aethiopika meets my twists

Ok so I finally got around to trying Qhemets newest butter. I was so excited to receive it and knew by looking at the consistency that I would be using this as a sealer styler. What I mean by sealer styler is  that on damp or dry hair  I add my water based moisturizer and then take some of the product mix it  between my fingers until its semi clear or clear then proceed to either twist or braid.  So Im using the product to not only seal the moisture in my hair but style it as well.

What I did the night before was mix some of Qhemets Moringa Tree Conditioning Ghee with the Cocoa Tree Detangling Ghee to give it a wet texture feeling.  I then twisted away and kept the twists in for three days before twisting out.

My view is this is something that will go over well in the fall/time/spring time.  In the summer if you dont mind a slight hold then you can even use it then. My hair was very lightweight and moved easily. The shine was AMAZING.  I give this 5 NAPPS up!

Vodka you say.....

Ive heard of using stranger items on the hair but this is the first time Ive ever heard of using vodka.  It seems its to remove product buildup. Ive also read that its reported to add shine like an ACV rinse would do.

Heres a recipe  I found online.  I dont drink myself so I might have to ask a friend for a shot or two. Let me know if youve dabbled in the art of vodka for hair lol.

Further your green beauty by trying this sure-way-to-shine formula:

Add a shot glass worth of vodka to your deep conditioner (if you don't have a deep conditioner on hand, try mayonnaise, eggs, avocado, or honey.)

Stir in a few drops of your favorite essential oil.

Spread through hair and rinse after 20 minutes.

The alcohol lowers the pH level of your hair, which helps the cuticles to close. Meanwhile, the oil will instantly boost the shine of your hair.

Believe me, this one works like magic!

A Hair milk by any other name might be a Hair Smoothie, Conditioner , Leave in.. etc

Ive noticed that a few company's are starting to use the word "smoothie". I'm a lover of food so of course I am going to bite and even more so when the products smells as good as it looks. I love the versatility of products that can be use for either conditioning, moisturizing , styling , or even leaving in to conditioner the hair.

First up we have Wonder Curls Get Slick Hair Smoothie.  Get Slick Hair Smoothie provides your hair with the benefits of organic coconut oil and organic Castor oil. Coconut oil, known for its benefits to skin and hair, is the only oil that penetrates the hair shaft to strengthen. Castor oil, also known for its medicinal properties, protects hair, prevents hair loss and promotes hair growth. Using Get Slick Hair Smoothie will keep your hair looking soft, shiny and strong.

Used the Butter than Love Pudding and Hair Smoothie under Eco Styler

You can pay either $7 for 4ozs or $13 for 8ozs.

Some of the key ingredients are : Aloe barbadensis (Organic Aloe) Juice - The rhythmically prepared leaf juice soothes the skin & hair and helps maintain proper moisture balance
Organic Castor Oil is a very pale yellow liquid that is extracted from Castor seeds (Ricinus Communis). The fatty acids in it nourish hair and prevent the scalp from drying by retaining moisture.
Organic Coconut Oil, a lauric acid (principal fatty acid), with a high affinity for hair proteins and, because of its low molecular weight and straight linear chain, is able to penetrate inside the hair shaft.”
Hydroxyethyl Cellulose is a non-ionic, water soluble polymer used as a thickening agent for aqueous cosmetic and personal care formulations
Phenoxyethanol is an organic chemical compound, a glycol ether used as a preservative
Tetrasodium EDTA is a chelating agent, used to sequester and decrease the reactivity of metal ions that may be present in a product
Acacia gum is a natural polysaccharide derived from the sap of the African acacia tree. It has been used since ancient times and is known for its demulcent and anti-inflammatory qualities.

Citric Acid acid produced by fermentation of glucose derived from starch, widely used in foods and cosmetics. Used to adjust pH
My overall impression is , that it works well as a leave in on dry hair that's already been styled,  it works well under a gel for definition and additional moisture and it works well as a light conditioner wash, the only thing I do not like is the fact that I have to use so much for each section of my hair.  With one use( for a WnG) of the 8oz bottle I was half way thru it.  It will not be a purchase for me due to that. I can get more bang for my buck with either  Tresemme Naturals Conditioner or Garnier Pure Clean Conditioner.

Anyone attending the Respect the Kink Meetup?  Check out the deets below!

Come meet and greet with other local NATURALS, in New York City,

who choose to rock their kink!

I chose this venue because of the significant and monumental role, that it played, in the life of Malcolm X.

When I walked into this venue, I knew that it was not an ordinary space.

Honesty, when I contacted management , I had no idea this was the landmark where Malcolm –X was assassinated, as the name had been changed.

As I viewed the site, I was lost for words.

I was in awe at the presence and the history that this place held and told…

No, this is not a militant event, but this place holds a history for our people.

A time, when we knew where we were going and were proud of who we were, even in the face of racism and bigotry.

I hope this venue and meet-up,

inspires you to be proud of who you NATURALLY are!

We welcome those who are happily nappy, transitioning to

chemically-treated and those that are considering a journey

into natural tresses or just

looking for other options in hair care.

I look forward to meeting each and every one of you!

Qhemet Biologics Welcomes Aethiopika

I have been waiting for this product for it seems well over a year, when Qhemet Biologics drops a new product , its like a standstill in the product world for me.  All of her products to me are a breath of fresh moisture.  I never have to worry about hard, tough hair AT all with any of her products . I was so excited that she was pre-releasing this during her summer sale.  She had the product information on her website and it sounded so appealing.

I finally have my jars in hand and I must say I am surprised by the consistency and the smell.  Most of her products are scented with the same lemon citrus smell , this one actually smells like AO HoneySuckle Rose Conditioner.  Its very subtle and hopefully it will not linger at all.  It also isn't a creamy substance to touch.  It remind me of her Amla Oil pomade minus the sticky feeling .  I have a feeling that this will be a great SEALANT twisting agent on hair that is dry or damp.  I can also see this being my product of use for the upcoming fall and winter.  I cant wait to try this out and see how it goes. I can see this lasting a long time as it spreads thinly and easily after scooping some out.

Here is the description from the website

Use this thick, rich butter to soften and maintain twists, braids and loose hair! Ideal for super dry, highly porous hair!

Product Description

Softens thick, extra dry hair with an ultra rich blend of Pure Olive Oil, Mango Butter and Rice Bran Oil! A touch of plant wax helps reduce frizz and smooth edges. Use sparingly. A little goes a long way. Use also as a body butter

Does not contain mineral oil, lanolin, proteins, silicones, essential oils or parabens.

100% Vegetarian.

Moderately fragrant scent.

Directions: Dig in with finger tip and scoop out a dime sized amount. Rub between palms and evenly distribute through damp or dry sectioned hair before locing, twisting or braiding. For loose hair, rub between palms and evenly distribute through damp or dry hair.

An uneven surface or mottled coloration is the result of high temperature pouring and uneven cooling. This is not indicative of a formula change nor will it affect performance.

The ingredient list from the jar states olive oil, mango butter and rice oil blend, behenyl esters, cetyl alcohol, soy extract, plant wax and phthalate free fragrance.
