Product Review: TRESemme Naturals : Nourishing Conditioner

I have heard for awhile that TRESemme Naturals Conditioner was all that and a bag of chips. Around two months ago i decided to go to Stop and Shop and pick up a  bottle.  On the TRESemme site it claims:

This new lightweight, silicone-free conditioner uses natural ingredients to hydrate hair, giving you the moisture you need and the natural benefits you love.

Formulated with USDA certified organic extracts like Aloe Vera and Avocado, your hair is incredibly soft and more manageable.

Hypoallergenic, dye-free and color-safe, this gentle conditioner is great for all hair types.

Protects your hair from damage and breakage with naturally derived polymers.

Leaves hair looking shinier and feeling 10X stronger after just one use.

Now get natural benefits along with the gorgeous style you trust from TRESemmé.

Water (Aqua) , Stearyl Alcohol , Cetyl Alcohol , Caprylic , Capric Triglyceride , Stearamidopropyl Dimethylamine , Fragrance (Parfum) , Lauroyl Lysine , Caprylyl Glycol , Brassica Campestris , Aleurites Fordi Oil Copolymer , Aspartic Acid , Distearyldimonium Chloride , Persea Gratissima Oil (Avocado) , Citric Acid , Alcohol , Isopropyl Alcohol , Aloe Barbadensis Leaf Juice

Well after using it for two months I have to stay it is a good rinse out conditioner when used after prepoo'n or cowashing. When I first tried it,I used it straight up to cowash and my hair was not impressed at all.  It was subpar at best and I said oh well, however after prepoo'n my hair and then using this to cowash I was impressed, or when I used this after cowashing to put moisture back in my hair was happy as can be.  I will have to note though that this has aloe vera and avocado oil which both affect my hair  with a slight protein sensitivity. It hasn't bothered me that much due to being low in the ingredient list.  I will continue to buy this because for $5.99 for 25ozs you cant beat that.

Spring is the in air you say, Well Hair its time to come out and play: 2

Next up we have Danielle  who was gracious enough to share information on what she has/does when the spring and summer weather hits us, I discovered her thru NaturallyCurly as well. I noticed her smile first and her hair second. I think we are also both in the same county in NJ. I'm looking forward to meeting her soon at a local hair get together.

I'm actually on my second big chop. I big chopped in 2008 but only made six months before relaxing again. This time around, I found what worked for my hair and have been fully natural since my big chop in February 2010.

Hair Type? I don't really follow the hair typing system. Honestly, my hair can look so many different ways depending on how MJ's feeling. (MJ is my name for my fro because of the curl that falls to the front.) If its important to you, look at the pictures and take a guess. lol! My hair is color treated, low porosity, medium texture, and frizzy. I've learned to embrace frizz instead of making it my enemy and I'm better for it.

My go to hairstyles are wash n gos and braidouts. With my first big chop, I relied on gel to style my wash and gos throughout the summer and my hair soon felt dry and lifeless. This time around, I discovered cream stylers like Bee Mine Luscious Balancing Moisturizer, Donna Marie Dream Curling Creme, and Jane Carter Curl Defining Cream. I'm not saying gels are bad. They weren't the best fit for me. If you're disappointed with the hold of gels, I say try a cream styler.

I try to adhere to a less is more attitude about my hair. Summer hair usually requires nothing more than a leave-in and holding product. And when I say less, I also mean the amount of product I actually use. My hair only appears to be thick. Too much product and my hair gums up horribly. The last thing you need in a humid NJ summer is sticky hair. Not only is it uncomfortable but you will attract bugs. lol!

This year, I realize I may have to tweak my regimen since I have more hair. I'm thinking about cutting more shape into my mane to make the curls have more movement. I'm also working on more styles so maybe I can wear twists in a bun to give my scalp some air as the weather heats up.

You can find me on my blog, It's a mish mash blog of hair, beauty, and style. Basically its my personal journey to rediscovering my own sense of style. Somewhere, I lost my mojo but I've been getting it back!

Garnier Frucis Style Pure Clean: Fortifying Conditioner

On March 30, 2011 I purchased the Pure Clean Gel from this new Garnier Pure Clean line up, so far since then I have also purchased the smoothing cream, the wax and the Fortifying Conditioner.  I am highly impressed by the whole line up so far.  Everything is working great and best all of the ingredients agree with my as natural as possible outlook on buying and using hair products.  I paid $2.99 for 13ozs of conditioner , in this new day and age where natural conditioners are going for over $10 , this is a good price. I love the fact that this is a product I can get on ground and at local places when I'm out and about.

The one thing I have to note is I can only use this either as a prepoo to lightly detangle my hair prior to washing or after I have washed my hair with either a shampoo or conditioner( that I use to wash) . This is basically putting moisture back into my hair.  Using this straight up to cowash my hair however didn't work for me. I had to let it sink into my hair strands before rinsing out. It is weightless and there isnt a heavy feeling so this might work for some as a light leave in as well.  I give it 5 napps up.

Sheamoisture: Anti Breakage Masque In review

OK so since Sheamoisture is in Walgreen's it seems they have some new products. I'm not into hair milks that much or moisture sprays so I tend to go for deep conditioning products as I wash and go a lot so I tend to deep condition more as my strands need it.  I wanted to get the purification masque but for some odd reason the labels turned me off. Call me crazy but I like the packaging on products to at least look tempting and that one wasn't doing it for me.

So on to the Anti Breakage masque,  This is geared for thin and fine hair , none of which I have but since when did that stop me.  I purchased it at my local Walgreen's for $10.99. I'm still peeved they are charging a dollar more but that's another story.

Once I opened the jar I knew I would be using this as a prepoo or under my steamer because it is THICK. It so thick I'm tempted to even twist with it to see how it comes out. I didn't like the other deep conditioning masque ( Sheamoisture Deep Treatment masque) because of the smell so I didn't have high hopes of really liking this. Well, right off the bat it gets points knocked off for the smell. Its not overpowering but it is a floral smell that shouldn't be in a deep conditioner( to me). Its sweet sickly smelling , like a perfume. Ah,I just looked again at the ingredients, the culprit is honeysuckle! Usually I like honeysuckle but this as a sweet undertone so me no likey.  I do however love the texture.  If its thick and creamy I'm there!!  So far I give it points for be a smooth easy to prepoo with product, we will see how it works out as a deep conditioner.

Here's what it claims:

This all natural intense treatment masque with biotin & bamboo extract is for thin, fine hair. It penetrates to moisturize and repair over-processed, dry, brittle or damaged hair. It thickens, volumizes & softens.

Baobab oil-Contains vitamins A,C,D,E and F to fortify and strengthen hair

Yucca-Thickens hair and helps to prevent hair loss

Biotin-A powerful B vitamin that strengthens the hair follicle

No parabens, phthalates, paraffin, gluten, propylene glycol, mineral oil, synthetic fragrance, animal testing, PABA, synthetic color, DEA, or animal ingredients

Deionized Water , Butyrospermum Parkii (Shea Butter) , Cocos Nucifera Oil (Coconut) , Mangifera Indica Seed Butter (Mango) , Persea Gratissima Oil (Avocado) , Olea Europaea Oil (Olive) , Aloe Barbadensis Leaf Extract , Ammonium Salt (Conditioner) , Yucca Filamentosa Extract , Vegetable Protein , Adansonia Digitata Extract (Baobab) , Biotin , Panthenol (Vitamin B-5) , Rosemary Extract , Bamboo Extract , Sorbitol Esters , Caprylyl Glycol , Essential Oil Blend , Lonicera Caprifolium Flower and Lonicera Japonica Flower Extract (Honeysuckle and Japanese Honeysuckle) , Tocopherol (Vitamin E)

Sheamoisture not only for the hair

For years prior to the SheaMoisture hair line coming to Target and Walgreen's I was using their body line up. The Black African Soap body wash is to die for  .I was always pleased with using it. Well I was in Target this past week and happened on some body scrubs by SheaMoisture.  I was intrigued because I love a good body sugar scrub.  I have received and used some high quality sugar scrubs in the past so I was dying to try the SheaMoisture ones to compare. There were two left on the shelf and I was torn between which one to buy. The first one was Lemongrass and Tea Tree Body Scrub and the second one was Red bush and Sage Body Scrub

I went with the Red Bush and Sage due to the fact that the lemongrass one had tea tree oil and I didn't want to take the chance of it irritating my skin too much. I have to say I am highly impressed. This $9.99 body scrub is on par with any of the higher priced items I have had before. The scent is not harsh or overly fragrant at all . Once you scoop one some and use it the skin feels so soft and buttery after . I used it twice so far and made sure it was my final rinse before getting out. Tonight I used it and didn't put any body oil on after my shower. I want to see if my skin still feels as soft and supple in the morning.  I highly recommend you guys try this if possible. I will be going back for the Lemongrass and Tea Tree one as well.

This nutrient-rich sugar scrub exfoliates and nourishes skin with anti-oxidant-rich Red Bush Extract and anti-inflammatory Sage. Also, contains Safflower Oil, Shea Butter, Jojoba Oil, Olive Oil and Aloe Vera  $9.99

Spring is the in air you say, Well Hair its time to come out and play.

Hello my lovelies, its that time again ,time where all your friends that you couldn’t play with in the winter decide to come out and play. Its that time where water is your best friend and you have no issues with that moisture seeping out. Spring and summertime! It’s the best part of the year for me. All of my humectants laden products work with the weather and I can be as carefree as I want to, so I decided to ask a few friends, what you do in the spring and summer?

First up in this series is Princess Presto, I uh stalked… OK e-met this lovely young woman on Naturally Curly and I just love her hair. It looks so thick, lush and just as happy as can be. You can find her on NC or on Fotki.

I've been natural since the early 1990s. I had an ill-advised texturizer moment in 2005 and about 2 months after that I re- BC'd back to natural hair and later on locs again. I cut my last set in 2008. I cut my hair very short on the sides and back in Fall 2009 to change the shape/balance of my hair because the nape area tends to outgrow the rest.

My favorite Spring/Summer styles: 1. Wash & Go using a rinsing conditioner (Garnier Fructis Pure Clean Fortifying), leave-in (Lily of the Desert Aloe 80 Certified Organic Daily Conditioner with Aloe, Lemon and Rosemary with some EVOO added), followed by gel( Eco Styler Extra Firm Gel, Yellow) to sections. WnG's are great for warm weather because it's a good way to cool off and the hair dries much faster.

 2. Any kind of updo to beat the heat. The other day I had a 90s moment and rolled the back up and arranged the crown and bangs kinda up, forward, and sideways. This was the 3rd day of a wash and go. I plan to wear it this way a lot this summer.

 3. Finally, there's also the trusty headband. This is on a 2nd or 3rd day wash and go. I used to do something similar with a braid-out, twist-out, or locs.
