In order for me to like my twist outs, they have to have great definition as well as softness. The tightest sets come from damp or wet hair but the biggest comes from either dry hair to next day twist outs. I rarely use a gel to set my twist outs unless days have past and I want to hang onto a little more definition. I don't use any particular gel but I like Ohm Body's Aloe gel , or Qhemet Biologics Honey bush Tea Gel. They both are very moisturizing and leave a soft hold once used over a moisturizer.
I have for the last three years used QB's Amla and Olive Heavy Cream to moisturize and Olive and Honey Hydrating Balm to twist with. The Heavy Cream is just that, a non shea butter based cream that is very heavy, My hair appears to be coarse but it is not . I have medium fine strands of hair that are very dense. The heavy cream can only be used on damp or wet hair and the bare minimum. The jar tends to last me a long time because I can only use a little. Yesterday I had the idea to actually mix the two together instead of using them one at a time and I have to say I am impressed all over again. My twists were plump , shiny and soft to the touch. There was some extra greasy feeling after twisting but after I took my bonnet off this morning , all the product had soaked in and I was left with a great twist out.
