How Fenugreek Works as a Hair Conditioner

Fenugreek seeds contain lecithin, an emulsifying substance. When soaked the seeds also produce mucilage, a slippery substance which gives hair slip and shine. This quality makes fenugreek a valuable addition to other natural and herbal conditioning mixes. Most natural conditioning agents such as yoghurt and oil do not give hair the "slip" commercial conditioner provides; the mucilage of fenugreek replicates the "slip" effect. The mucilage also makes mixes such as henna or amla paste easier to apply to the hair

When applied to the hair as a paste fenugreek should be kept moist: if it dries out it can be difficult to remove from the hair. Covering the head with glad wrap or a plastic bag should keep the paste moist for several hours. The mixture can be left on for as little as 20 minutes or as long as several hours, but bear in mind that the longer the mix stays on the head, the greater its chance of drying out.

To wash fenugreek out, simply use water. Conditioner is not needed, as fenugreek is a substitute for conditioner. . Fenugreek paste can be mixed with other ingredients such as yoghurt, honey, amla, shikakai and henna to make more complex hair masques and treatments.

I made a quick paste last night with Brahmi and Fenugreek and simply added water.  I applied it as a thick paste to the very front of my hair which is braided.  I left it in 20 minutes, and rinsed out with plain water. My hair was really moist, supple and curly.  I didn't need to really wash but I am trying out several products for the month of December.  After that I cowashed with As I am Naturally Coconut Cowash ,then applied Henna Sooqs Cocoveda as a leave in , followed by La Boutique Fleurtzys Curl Nurture Cream and Hydrating  Butter to seal.

Today my braids are very supple and soft. Frizzy as all get out but that doesn't bother me as I have been cowashing my braids every day or every other day.  I'm trying to keep these braids in until the end of December.

You just made me remember to revisit my fenugreek. I've only used it twice and both times I loved it.
