Blended Beauty: Styling Butter Creams

06/01/2010 Well fellow naturals, I'm going to have to give it to Blended Beauty, The Down and out Styles IS a wonderful cream styler. I used Karen's Body Beautiful Hair Milk as a leave in after a cowash and then just added the Down and Out Styles hair cream. My hair clumped, and curled as normal. The only downside is my hair didn't have a lot of hold that I like. I tend to sleep a little wild so my hair was mussed. I was very surprised to see my hair curling with a cream that went on like buttery icing. The only down side that I can see if the price and the hold is very soft for me. I'm going to have to play with it on a weekend to see if it has a full potential but I'm really happy to find a styler that lets me have touchable hair.

I love the freedom of wearing my wash and gos in the spring and summer time. What I don't love is the fact that I haven't found a styler gel that doesn't give the crunch factor. Most stylers of my gel stylers contain high amounts of aloe or flax seed. I can use Curl Activator gels but getting the dew point right and either having a soft fro which I may or may not be going for , or tight curls depending on the weather. I would like to find a product that used alone is my styler and moisturizer. I want it to define my curls and keep them with a soft hold. I do not like that fact that my hair looks great but feels crunchy. I can scrunch the crunch out and I don't mind doing so but it would be nice not to have to.
I read a rave review on NC where a great blogger listed the results of using the kids version of Blended Beauty's Happy Nappy Styles on her daughters hair, A fellow natural Cassadie also reviewed it and loved it as well. I'm highly excited to try both products as I purchased the Happy Nappy Styles and the Down and Out Styles.

Styling Thick Kinky Hair

I like this video posted by Blended Beauty. It really shows in detail how to section and smooth product throughout your hair . Sometimes I see naturals become discouraged when a product doesn't work for them , it turns out its not the product itself but more so the application . If you have a serious head of dense thick natural strands plopping some product in your hands and then waving it over your hair will not work . You have to section , smooth and take time to ensure all the product is coated in the strands.

This video demonstrates that I thought very well

The slowest area to grow: My Bang area

Well yeah, like the title says , my bang area is the slowest to grow. Last summer I let my cousin flat iron my bang to go with a sew-in I had at the time. Well I went home and wet my bang and it did not revert. So I chopped 5 inches of my bang off and let the other 3 inches grow out. I finally couldnt take the ends not twisting so I cut another inch off. I was not a happy camper. In the winter of 2009 I did the 100 day challenge and that helped a lot . Since then I have been on a routine to grow my bang area back, seeing how its the slowest growth area for me any growth is indeed welcomed.

I try and support as many black owned businesses as I can. If I like the idea and drive behind a small business , I will try and spread things by word of mouth, Facebook , my online friends , forums etc. I try not to knock anyone's hustle to succeed.

The natural online community is a network and anyone standing out you tend to " e-hear about". Well, I've seen some YouTube videos of Black Onyx. Her style, her hair journeys ups and down. It looks like she's doing her thing. Her site has a plethora of jewelry , earrings and her product line.

There has been a discussion of her product and not including full ingredients and such. As a person with no known allergic reactions I decided to purchase the Shea-Yogurt Moisturizer and the Lemongrass Leave In Conditioner. When the Shea-Yogurt arrived I was expecting a Shea- Aloe blend. To my eye and touch I can't see any type of water content added to this product, it smells of pure Shea butter with a tad bit of fragrance. It looks like pure Shea butter that's been whipped. It feels like pure Shea butter to me. In my honest view, it's not a product that stands out. I might as well have used plain Shea butter on my hair. I used it to do a braid out , that I converted to a twist out. If you're interested then by all means try it but for me it wasn't what I expected.

The Lemongrass Leave In Conditioner I'm still playing around with but so far its very light , it works well under a styler , its sets the style to go into a wash and go. I want to test it for twist outs and braid outs so I will do a later post on it . All in all would I repurchase no, but in the end I still give my shout out for this young lady doing her "thang".

Refresh your Washandgo

I know many type 4 ladies have very tiny curls and coils. The best thing about wearing a wash and go for me is keeping the definition with a mixture of frizz and coils. It makes my hair unique.

Well my spring and summer routine is to rock wash and gos for up to 6 days and then start again. I usually cowash at night because I have no time in the morning to run to work with soaking wet hair . My hair takes well over a day to fully dry. I like the first day for my hair to set and the rest of the days to maintain.

I have found a great product for refreshing my hair when I do not want to water rinse. I usually wait until day four of the style to wet my hair again then wait it out two more days to start all over again. Using the Curls in a Bottle , I could get away with simply using that in addition to water rinsing. Its very lightweight , It doesn't build up on your hair , it clings to the coils and sometimes helps with that bed-head frizz look . You don't need a lot of the product at all. It works well with water-based moisturizers such as hair milks.

Im pleasantly surprised and will continue to purchase this product for the future. You can find it at Curl Mart or the actual website of the creator Curl Junkie. Its $18 for 12 ozs. I have had my bottle for around 3 months and still have 3/4 of the bottle remaining . Its protein and silicone free

Ingredients: Water, Hydroethylcellulose, Agave Nectar, Propylene Glycol, Polysorbate 20, Matricaria Recuitita (Chamomile) Flower Water, PVP, Panthenol, PEG-8 Dimethicone*, Polyquaternium-10, PEG-8 Raspberriate**, Diazolidinyl Urea, Iodopropynyl Butylcarbamate, Tetrasodium EDTA, Fragrance. *Water soluble-rinses clean!, **Derived from Raspberry Oil. free.
